They can identify symptoms of tuberculosis, silicosis, and other occupational lung diseases and then recommend intervention. These screenings are required in work environments governed by OSHA, where exposure to chemicals and dust increases the risk of pulmonary diseases. The employer’s goal is to establish a baseline and track changes over time to protect workers, ensure they’re physically fit, and reduce long-term liability.

During your chest X-ray appointment, a trained radiologic technologist who specializes in imaging procedures will complete the scan. You’ll change into a gown and remove anything you’re wearing made of metal because it might interfere with the image. You’ll take a deep breath while standing in front of the machine while they capture the image. It will probably take less than 15 minutes. The x-ray can reveal important clues about your health.
PPD tests, also known as tuberculin skin tests, screen for latent TB infection. They measure the body’s immune response to TB protein, which is injected under your skin.
